Kujang

Kujang is a traditional weapon in the form of sharp weapon that looks like a dagger, machete, with a unique shape of the bulge at the base, serrated on one side in the middle and shape the curve at the edges. For the people of Sunda, cleaver is more common than the dagger.

Kujang is heirloom Sundanese tradition, which tells the history of the beginning of its existence is still not revealed. If the Salakanagara Kingdom which is the oldest kingdom in Java as the embryo of the birth, believed that existence is very old. The reason is reinforced that if the Kujang which is estimated as a tool or agricultural fields, the Kingdom of Tarumanegara the fourth century was able to arrange a good farm system with the construction of irrigation systems for fields and agriculture, may already be present incontext of Kujang tool or utensil shifting agriculture in the socio- culturalinstitutionssociety at that time. Kujang recognized as a unique weapon Sundanese ethnic society. Kujang is a premodern Sundanese cultural heritage.

Kujang known by the public at large is Kujang Ciung. At the regional emblem, the emblem of fertilizers and cement companies, the battalion's emblem, the monuments and others clearly indicate on the form Kujang Ciung. In fact, Kujang has a variety of forms and names that adapt these forms. Various forms and names is estimated to have a symbol that is used in the order the golden era of Kujang i.e the Pajajaran kingdom era.

Kujang term itself has many interpretations, one of whom it was said that Kujang comes from the word "kudi" and "hyang" is considered purified. It refers to the development of weapons which are found in the area of Java and Madura.
